Health – The use of Stand-Biased desks has been shown to improve blood flow, and increase calorie expenditure. These subtle changes gained from postural improvements in stand-biased classrooms are more suited for young, developing bodies than traditional seated stations.
Recent research into sedentary behaviors have indicated health outcomes beyond calorie expenditure for reducing seated time, including improved metabolic profiles, improvements in high-density lipoprotein production, lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity, and blood glucose control. In addition to these findings, we have input that standing muscle activity causes isometric contraction of postural muscles which produce electromyographic and skeletal muscle LPL changes resulting in additional biomarkers for health benefits.
Research showed that the children in stand-biased desks maintained better postures and were more comfortable throughout the day than their seated peers.
Productivity – The old axiom - We think better on our feet than on our seat has never been more evident than in the Stand-Biased classrooms outfitted by Stand2Learn. The extra alertness and reaction times documented in research studies on standing vs. sitting tasks are solid proof that we need more movement to perform at our best. When you get sleepy in a meeting – what do you do? Stand Up – it wakes you up and energizes you.

I am very pleased to report that I have completely fallen in love with the stand-up desks. My students seem to be enjoying the option of standing or sitting and for the most part, we have about 14 students out of 20 without stools at their desks. The first two who gave up their stools (in the first 2 weeks) were my most active students who need to be constantly moving. They seem to produce more work when they are allowed to fidget which is very interesting to me because if I had a stand up desk growing up, I probably would have been more productive in school myself. Just like the students, I have a stand up desk myself and I find it very helpful for me to do my work. Overall, I am very pleased with the stand-up desks and I would hope more teachers would be able to participate next year.

I love them! I think they are great. Specifically they are wonderful for my kids who have attention and focus problems because they are trying to control their legs at the same time they do their work so this has really been beneficial. I think the kids really like them too. So far 6/17 of my students have gotten rid of their stools all together. I would say that 12/17 stand up for the majority of their day. It is really interesting because when we had the standard desks my kids wanted to be up out of their seats most of the time anyway. We learn in teaching to give breaks that have students standing, stretching, etc. to get more oxygen flowing to the brain. Thank you so much!

The furniture is very durable and it makes the classroom look neat, and the children do not have to turn their stools around to face me compared to using chairs. I favor using the stand-biased desks and wants to keep them and cannot see myself ever using traditional desks again.
