Lifetone model HLAC151 Bedside Fire Alarm & Clock is a smoke-alarm accessory designed to awaken and alert people who are at risk of sleeping through an ordinary alarm.
Most fatal residential fires occur at night. But ordinary alarms often fail to awaken members of high-risk groups, who may not even hear the high-pitched sound of a common smoke detector. Children, deaf people, and the hard of hearing are especially at risk.
The Lifetone alarm is different. Patented technology in the Lifetone alarm listens for your existing smoke alarms, and the HLAC151 responds with its own audible, visual, and tactile alerts:
Audible alerting by means of the Lifetone alarm’s own loud, lower-pitched T3 signal
Audible announcement in a baritone voice ("Fire! Get out!") helps overcome disorientation
Tactile alerting by means of a vibrating disk called a bed shaker
Visual notification by means of the word FIRE displayed in large text against a bright, flashing orange backlight
With the alerts that have been scientifically proven the most effective, Lifetone alarms have been chosen by fire departments throughout the US for distribution to residents.
Even people with normal hearing can benefit, but those most in need of the HLAC151's alerting power include:
People with age-related or other partial hearing loss
Hearing-aid wearers who remove the devices at night
Children, who often are deep sleepers
Other deep sleepers, including people who may be impaired by alcohol or medication
The Lifetone HLAC151 is also a bedside alarm clock. The daily wake-up notifications look, sound, and feel different from the emergency notifications.
